Featured Photographer: Sophie Epton

Sophie Epton is a fine art film photographer whose most recent favorite picture (captured in front of none other than the Eiffel Tower) has me swooning and yearning for work-related travel.

From reading her responses, I can tell how much she adores and enjoys working with each of her couples, and it set on giving them the best customer service experience possible.

Enjoy her words + pictures!

Where's home?

Austin, TX

What 3-4 main words would you use to describe your photography?

Authentic, joyful, luminous, dreamy.

What's in your bag?

(2) Contax 645 + Carl Zeiss 80mm f/2 lens, (2) Canon 6D, (2) Canon EF 50mm f/1.2, Canon EF 24-70mm, (2) Canon EF 70-200mm, (4) Canon Speedlite 600ex-rt

One lens only, for the rest of your life. GO!

Carl Zeiss 80mm f/2 lens...when combined with the Contax 645, it creates absolute magic on film!

Dream wedding gig?

My dream wedding scenario would be a small, intimate wedding in Europe where the love is fully present, the details are beautifully curated and the weather is sublime. Jordan (my husband) and I are a traveling photography team, and when we get to combine capturing true love for a couple with the adventure of being inspired by a new landscape - it is the most fulfilling experience. We are shooting our first wedding in Italy next May, and couldn't be more EXCITED! Feels like a dream come true!

Last place you traveled?

We've had a lot of travel this past year, and truly feel so blessed for every opportunity. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to travel to London, Paris, the Loire Valley in France and Colorado. Being able to capture new surroundings through my viewfinder is one of the most exhilarating experiences...even though I am a nervous flyer, I will always get on the plane in order to accomplish this feeling.

Last time you laughed?

Last night...my husband is a total goof and is always making me laugh, probably one of the reasons we have such a tight bond and can work together successfully. When in doubt, we laugh!

What's the best part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is the people we get to meet. There is nothing more thrilling or heart-warming than befriending a couple, learning all about their lives and gaining their complete trust, and then being able to capture and share with them one of the most important days of their lives. Sometimes I feel like I may be (almost) as excited as the bride when I get to deliver photos because I am so overjoyed they get to experience the day all over again through these images we shot...it's really humbling and beautiful.

Favorite image you've captured recently?

My favorite image right now is of our precious Parisian couple snapped with the Contax right in front of the Eiffel Tower. Traveling to Paris and being able to capture this anniversary session was such a surreal moment; the culmination of years of hard work that we felt had led us to this special moment that we will never forget.

What makes you different?

Jordan and I always strive to create gorgeous, curated images for every bride and groom's wedding, but that is a given. To me, what makes us different is our level of customer service. In this industry, there can be a lot of ego and I've definitely heard horror stories about disrespectful photographers on the day of!

For us, we want to make sure that our couple not only love their photos, but had a wonderful time in the process. Whether that is running to get a bride a cold glass of water, pinning boutonnieres ourselves or just acting like total goobs to make our subjects feel at ease, the best compliment we can get at the end of the night is "you two are awesome and made everyone feel so comfortable."

How do you use the La Rousse glass box?

Can I tell you how amazing your product is?! Finally, something different, beautiful and truly a way to package photos that couples want to display in their homes.

Once a shoot is complete, every couple receives a gold 4 x 6 La Rousse box with a selection of printed photos wrapped in silk ribbon and a crystal flash drive with digital scans of all edited images. I am a strong believer in printing work...not only are the photos more appealing in print, but there is nothing like being able to hold something tangible versus the digital black hole of the computer. It gives us so much joy to be able to present our work to clients in the La Rousse box, and we know it adds so much more to our couple's total experience as well.
